Clinical Trials

A new path forward

Combining cutting-edge science with trusted care for our nation’s heroes.

We’re proud to lead the way in research focused on improving and transforming mental health treatment. We offer world-class, evidence-based care, and now we’re conducting several research studies that could impact the future of treatment for post-traumatic stress.

What are psychedelics?

Psychedelics are drugs that cause non-ordinary mental states. We are conducting studies investigating MDMA and psilocybin-assisted therapy for PTSD. The short-term effects of MDMA may include feelings of joy, closeness and love for others, and feelings of peace or well-being. The short-term effects of psilocybin can include changes in emotions or mood, unusual visions or visual distortions, an altered sense of time, and unusual physical sensations. MDMA and psilocybin sessions last for at least 6 hours and effects vary across individuals.

MDMA and Psilocybin are not approved by the Food & Drug Administration (FDA) at the time of this study, but can be legally taken as part of clinical research studies. The use of these study drugs is being administered in an experimental manner and there is no guarantee that it will benefit you or improve your condition(s).

How does the study work?

Interested individuals will go through a thorough medical and psychiatric screening to assess if they meet study eligibility requirements.

We are currently conducting three different psychedelic studies that involve a one-time medicine session in the context of therapy for PTSD. Study procedures will include this medicine session, therapy, self-report and clinical measures, and may include psychophysiology and brain imaging.

After treatment is complete, research procedures involve assessments across the following 12 months of treatment by phone or online.

Who is eligible?

You may qualify if you are:

  • Experiencing symptoms of post-traumatic stress such as difficulty sleeping, feeling emotionally numb or hopeless, being easily startled, constantly on edge, and struggling with anger or irritability
  • Open to participating in a clinical research study involving psychedelic-assisted therapy

  • Able to dedicate time for screening, two weeks for in-person treatment at our clinic in Atlanta, Georgia, and complete follow-up assessments for up to one year

We have studies that are open to veterans, active-duty service members, and civilians.
