Breast Cancer Screening Saves Lives

Breast cancer doesn’t always show symptoms early on—which is why regular screenings are so important. Mammograms can detect breast cancer up to two years before it can be felt, giving you a better chance at early treatment and recovery.

Getting screened every year can make a big difference. When breast cancer is found early, it’s often easier to treat and outcomes are typically better.

At Emory's Breast Imaging Center, we use advanced 3D mammography technology, and our team includes board-certified radiologists who specialize in breast imaging.

Now cancer-free, she's an advocate for women receiving the best caliber of care.

When Should You Start Getting Mammograms?

The Emory Breast Imaging Center recommends:

Annual mammograms for all women beginning at age 40
A risk assessment by age 30 to see if you are at an increased risk for breast cancer—particularly Black and Jewish women and those with a strong family history.

For some women, screening before age 40 might be beneficial.
