Robotic Heart Surgery

Your Partner in Robotic Heart Surgery

If you’re facing heart surgery, it can feel scary and overwhelming. You need a surgical team with experience with the most progressive, forward-thinking treatments.

At Emory Heart & Vascular, our team of experts includes surgeons, anesthesiologists, surgical assistants, nurses, perfusionists and technicians. Together, they use the Intuitive da Vinci® Robotic System to offer a wide range of robotic surgery options. This technique along with our team’s experience makes your surgery safer and more successful with a shorter recovery time.

Robotic Heart Surgery Treatments We Offer

Our expert surgeons have decades of experience performing robotic surgeries.

We offer a wide range of robotic procedures, including:

Transcatheter Tricuspid Valve Replacement
Coronary artery disease (CAD) happens when the blood vessels (arteries) carrying oxygen to the heart muscle become narrowed or blocked (atherosclerosis). CAD prevents blood from reaching the heart muscle. CAD can lead to a heart attack, and even heart failure. At Emory Heart & Vascular, surgeons can use robotic-assisted Coronary Bypass Graft surgery to treat this condition and others, including mitral valve disease.

Why Choose Emory Heart & Vascular

Emory Heart & Vascular experts have been trailblazers in robotic heart surgery for decades.

In 2002, we performed Georgia’s first robotic heart surgery with the Intuitive da Vinci® Robotic System. Today, we’re the global leader in robotically assisted mitral valve surgeries. We’ve completed over 3,000 procedures with a greater than 90% success rate.

We’re also the only cardiac surgery service in Georgia to offer the endo-ACAB procedure for coronary artery bypass. Fewer than 10 facilities nationwide offer this procedure.

Our expert surgeons also lead the way outside the operating room. They train surgical teams at Emory and worldwide to perform robotic heart surgery. As a result, we’re expanding access to these progressive surgical options and educating the next generation of talented surgeons.

What To Expect from Robotic Heart Surgery

Robotic heart surgery is a safer, more successful and minimally invasive alternative to open heart surgery. Our expert surgeons make several tiny openings less than an inch wide in your chest. Then, they use small tools and imaging guidance to operate on your heart.

During surgery, our specialists control the robotic arms from a console. A robotic camera produces high-definition 3D images of your heart. This clear view helps us complete these surgeries faster and with fewer complications.

Robotic heart surgery also offers several additional benefits:

  • Faster recovery
  • Fewer blood transfusions
  • Fewer restrictions after surgery
  • Less pain after surgery
  • Less pain medication (narcotics) use after surgery
  • Lower risk of infection
  • Potentially lower rate of stroke or other complications
  • Shorter hospital stay
