Gina Bertolini is a strategic health care legal executive with over 20 years’ experience managing legal functions for academic medical centers, large health systems and ancillary providers. Recognized as a trusted advisor to health care executives and boards, Bertolini has counseled senior health system leadership on a variety of governance, operational and regulatory matters, including health care fraud and abuse, medical staff matters, data privacy, state and federal licensure and certification, patient-related matters; health care M&A; and complex commercial contracting.
Most recently, Bertolini was a partner in the Health Care Practice Group of K&L Gates, where she advised academic medical centers and large health systems, as well as health IT and digital health companies. Previously, Bertolini served as Deputy General Counsel and Associate Vice President for the University of Michigan Health System (now Michigan Medicine). Prior to that, Bertolini was Associate General Counsel at UNC Health Care, where, among other responsibilities, she served as Chief Legal Officer for UNC Physicians Network. In those roles, Bertolini advised on health care operations, physician compensation, health system M&A, medical staff matters, and government investigations, among other things.
Bertolini has been ranked by Chambers (Band 2, Healthcare) and Best Lawyers in America and is a frequent national speaker on critical legal issues in health care. She earned her J.D. cum laude from UC Hastings College of the Law (now UC Law San Francisco), where she was a Tony Patino Fellow, member of the Order of the Coif, National Moot Court finalist, and National Association of Women Lawyers Student of the Year. Bertolini holds a B.F.A. with honors from DePaul University.
