Botox® Cosmetic (onabotulinumtoxinA), Dysport®, and Xeomin®
Botulinum toxin (Botox® was the first commercial product) has been used in medical applications for more than 20 years. Ted Wojno, MD, director of Oculoplastics, Orbital and Cosmetic Surgery at Emory Eye Center, co-authored the seminal paper, in 1984, on the groundbreaking research on the clinical use of Botox® in the eye area.
Botulinum toxin A contains the same virus that causes botulism. Injections block nerve impulses in an isolated area. In cosmetic applications, injections are used to temporarily improve horizontal forehead lines, the vertical "fret-line" between eyebrows, and "crow's-feet" at the outer corners of the eyes. Within three days after injections, patients should see a difference that can last three to four months, sometimes longer.
Botox® Cosmetic , Dysport®, and Xeomin® are FDA-approved for the treatment of facial wrinkles. They are used to soften laugh lines, "crow's feet," forehead wrinkles, lip wrinkles and more in both men and women. While these three products have botulinum toxin A in common, they have important differences. Your physician will determine the product that would be best suited to your condition.
Cosmetic Surgery: Brow Lift, Eyelid Lift (Blepharoplasty)
As individuals age, they develop excess skin that overhangs their eyelids and lashes, particularly their upper eyelids. Puffy bags and dark circles develop beneath the eyes. These conditions give a tired or unhealthy appearance. Upper eyelid sagging may also significantly obstruct range of vision.
To help correct these conditions, a surgical procedure called blepharoplasty is used to remove excess skin and fat from eyelids. If desirable, low eyebrows can also be surgically raised. Blepharoplasty may include surgery on the upper eyelids, lower eyelids or both, rejuvenating the eye area and resulting in a more vibrant, rested, healthier appearance.
Facial Fillers: Restylane® Juvederm® Ultra Juvederm® Ultra Plus
Facial fillers provide needed filling in or contouring of the face. They are used to minimize facial wrinkles and folds, such as lines from the nose to the corners of the mouth (nasolabial folds), deeper frown lines, and shadows around the eyes.
Facial Peels
Facial peels are nonsurgical cosmetic resurfacing techniques that can be performed as outpatient procedures. Removing facial wrinkles doesn't have to mean stretched skin and a plastic look. Sun damage, fine wrinkles, acne scarring, age spots, uneven pigmentation and other facial imperfections can be erased or improved with facial peels, which remove the damaged top layers of skin to restore a more youthful appearance.
