De Quervain's Tenosynovitis
DeQuervain’s tenosynovitis, also called stenosing tenosynovitis, occurs when tendons around the base of the thumb are irritated or constricted. This is typically caused by overuse especially from activities that require forceful gripping while flexing and extending the wrist.
DeQuervain’s Tenosynovitis Symptoms
Symptoms of DeQuervain's Tensynovitis include:
- Pain in the wrist on the thumb side when flexing and extending the wrist
- ‘Catching’ sensation
- Pain with gripping
DeQuervain’s Tenosynovitis Treatment
Treatment methods for DeQuervain's Tensynovitis include:
- Rest
- Splinting the Wrist and Thumb
- Corticosteroid Injections
- Anti-inflammatory medications
- Cold modalities
If conservative treatment options are not successful, De Quervain's Release Surgery may be recommended.
