Why Choose Emory?
At Emory Long-Term Acute Care, we understand that every patient’s circumstance is unique. Our clinical experts carefully craft individualized treatment plans developed to treat the whole person-not just the illness – with a focus on rehabilitation.
We practice a standard of excellence that shows in how our patients and doctors feel about us. While it’s the kind of care that comes from the heart, it’s backed by hard, measurable results and the Gold Seal of Approval ® from The Joint Commission – hyperlink to www.jointcommission.org for our healthcare quality. We are proud to share that we hold the following certifications:
- The nation’s first hospital to earn Joint Commission Gold Seal disease-specific certification for the treatment of patients on ventilators who are diagnosed with respiratory failure
- Georgia’s first hospital to earn Joint Commission Goal Seal disease-specific certification for wound care treatment
- Joint Commission Gold Seal disease-specific certification for treatment of patients with acquired brain injury
Emory Long-Term Acute care opened its doors in 1996. We began with 19 beds but have grown to 50 beds, including a four-bed specialized care unit. On average, we treat 30 to 40 patients at a time to provide more individualized care and to keep a low patient-to-nurse ratio. This ensures that each patient receives the personalized care they deserve. All of our rooms are private, ensuring that patients experience maximum comfort during their stay. Our physician-led team of nurses, respiratory and physical therapists, occupational and speech therapists, case managers, and dieticians work together with the goal of returning each patient to a level of activity and lifestyle they enjoy.
Emory Long-Term Acute Care is committed to using innovative, evidence-based medicine to achieve optimal recovery and results for our patients. Care is delivered using the latest science in a cost-effective setting that leads to high patient satisfaction and return-to-home rates. With specialized accommodations such as beds that enable progressive mobility, most patients meet treatment goals within a two-to-six week length of stay.
In addition to intensive therapy and round-the-clock nursing and respiratory care, we provide the following services:- Specialized nursing
- Respiratory rehabilitation
- Vent weaning protocols
- Wound care
- Pain management
- Swallowing evaluation and treatment
- Remote telemetry (continuous monitoring of vital signs and heart rhythm)
- Remote pulse oxygen monitoring
- Physical, occupational and speech therapy
- On-site pharmacy

- Family education and support
At Emory Long-Term Acute Care, our patients come to use through a physician referral. Once a physician refers a patient to our hospital, a liaison will evaluate the patient (free of charge) to ensure that he or she is appropriate for our program of if another level of care is appropriate. If the patient meets our criteria, they will be transferred to our facility within 24 hours.
