What would later become Emory Saint Joseph’s Hospital was founded in 1880 by the Sisters of Mercy, four sisters with just 50 cents between them. They opened the hospital in a small house on Atlanta’s Baker Street just after the Civil War.
Today, Emory Saint Joseph’s Hospital spans 32 acres and is known as one of the best specialty-referral hospitals in the Southeast.
Over 140 years later, Emory Saint Joseph’s is committed to carrying out the mission of the Sisters of Mercy—giving excellent, approachable care to those who need it most.
