Healthy ATL: Emory Telehealth Connects Patients to High-Quality Care

By: Emory Healthcare
Date: Nov 10, 2020

Recently, Matt Ryan, Atlanta Falcons quarterback, sat down with Dr. Greg Esper, associate chief medical officer at Emory Healthcare, during Healthy ATL. They discussed Emory Connected Care, the telehealth platform that has provided health care through more than 250,000 visits between patients and their providers. In their conversation, Matt and Dr. Esper discussed how and why it was so important for Emory to offer this service and make patients feel confident about the care they received through telehealth.

Helping Patients Get Comfortable with Telehealth

As the COVID-19 pandemic continues to affect our community, Emory Healthcare stays committed to delivering the care our patients need. That includes improving telehealth services, a commitment that’s been true since the beginning of 2020. But, at the heart of that commitment is more than just investing in technology. It is making sure patients and providers are comfortable receiving and delivering care through telehealth.

As patients and providers get used to this innovative approach, they are realizing that much of what can be done in the office can also be done over a computer, tablet or phone. This is largely due to the dedication, innovation and creativity providers and Emory teams have demonstrated as we’ve adapted to delivering safe, effective care while slowing the spread of COVID-19.

Bringing World-Class Health Care Into Your Living Room

Emory Connected Care is the platform that Emory uses for telehealth. Many patients are surprised that they are able to access almost all the services available in person. That includes neurological issues, visits with your primary care provider or having an injury checked out by an orthopaedic specialist.

Cancer and transplant patients, and other patients with complex conditions, are also able to get the care they need – safely – through Emory Connected Care.

Making it Easy to Access the Care You Need, When You Need It

Telehealth isn’t all that different from connecting with a family member through FaceTime or participating in a video conferencing meeting at work. This familiarity helps many patients feel more comfortable and confident accessing telehealth care for the first time.

At Emory, the main goal is to figure out how to make the patients comfortable talking about their illness or health concern via telehealth and making sure they’re comfortable with the examination process. That often includes one of our Emory Connected Care specialists touching base with patients before appointments to ensure they have everything they need to connect with their provider.

About Emory Connected Care

Emory Connected Care enables patients to consult with a health care provider using a computer, tablet or phone. This convenient, safe and effective way to access health care allows individuals to stay at home during the COVID-19 pandemic and allows our offices to implement important physical distancing steps – all of which helps slow the spread of the virus in our communities. Many of our providers offer telehealth appointments, ensuring you get the care, support and answers you need to stay in – or return to – good health.
