new hires on a tour of an emory hospital

Eligibility Requirements

Before You Start

Please review the following requirements before you start your new role at Emory Healthcare.
To ensure the competency of our caregivers, professional licensure and certification may be required for certain jobs. Licenses must be current and enable providers to practice within the state of Georgia. Proof of required licensure or certification is required prior to the first day of employment.

Many positions require current valid health care cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), such as Basic Life Support (BLS) or Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), certification. Original documentation of current certification must be provided prior to New Employee Orientation or the first day of work.

We recommend obtaining BLS certification before applying for positions with this requirement. Candidates without current certification may not be considered or the start date may be delayed.

We perform general background screening on all new hires prior to their start date. Background screening includes professional references, a criminal background check, education verification, driving record (depending on position), Medicare/Medicaid exclusion registry check and sexual offender registry check.

Decisions regarding the suitability of employment related to criminal convictions are based on the nature and seriousness of the offense, relatedness to the position and the time that has passed.

Education

For positions requiring specific educational achievement, Emory Healthcare verifies degree attainment and, for post-secondary education, institution accreditation. Post-secondary educational institution and programs accreditation are based on the U.S. Department of Education's database.

Health Assessments

The following health assessments will be conducted prior to starting work.
Emory Healthcare is committed to providing a safe environment for employees and patients. To ensure this goal, and as a condition of hiring, new hires the applicant must submit and pass a urine drug test as part of the post-offer health assessment.

We protect our patients, co-workers, and community by requiring all employees to be immunized according to CDC standards.

Employees, including those not involved with patient care, must receive the following evaluation and vaccinations:

  • TB Evaluation
  • MMR
  • Tdap
  • Varicella
  • Hepatitis B for some jobs
  • Annual Influenza*

*Limited exemptions may be made for documented medical contraindications or religious beliefs that object to vaccinations.

Equal Opportunity Employer

Emory Healthcare is an equal opportunity employer, and qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, national origin, disability, protected veteran status or other characteristics protected by state or federal law. Emory Healthcare does not discriminate in employment, including recruitment, hiring, promotions, transfers, discipline, terminations, wage and salary administration, benefits, and training. Emory Healthcare complies with Section 503 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, the Vietnam Era Veteran's Readjustment Assistance Act, and applicable executive orders, federal and state regulations regarding nondiscrimination, equal opportunity, and affirmative action (for protected veterans and individuals with disabilities).

e-Verify

Emory Healthcare participates in the e-Verify program. E-Verify is an Internet-based system operated by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) where employers verify the employment eligibility of their employees, regardless of citizenship.

U.S. law requires organizations to employ only individuals who may legally work in the United States, either U.S. citizens or foreign citizens who have the necessary authorization. New hires are required to provide original documentation to establish identity and authorization to work when completing Form I-9.
