Obstetrics & Prenatal Care

Labor and Delivery

Crafting an Experience That Respects You and Your Baby

When the day comes to meet the newest member of your family, you want things to go smoothly. So do we. Most importantly, we want you and baby to be comfortable and stay safe. Each of our three Maternity Centers offers the accommodations, amenities and advanced equipment— backed by our experienced labor and delivery staff—to give you what you need during each stage of your pregnancy.

We’ll be by your side, cheering you on and closely monitoring you and baby with the comfort and care you deserve during this exciting moment.

Honoring Your Birthing Preferences

Before you arrive in the hospital, you’ll have several conversations with your doctor and care team about what you can expect during labor and delivery. With the intention of understanding your goals for labor and delivery, we’ll have honest, open and respectful conversations. And we’ll work to honor those goals the best we can, all while keeping you and your baby’s safety top of mind.

Our Maternity Centers offer many different types of labor and delivery experiences. There is no wrong or right or best option when it comes to having a baby—only one that keeps everyone healthy. We’ll discuss each birthing experience available in our Centers, which include:

  • Inviting a midwife or doula to be part of your birthing team
  • Non-medicated birthing experience (natural birth)
  • Pain control during birth such as an epidural

Compassionate, Experienced Labor and Delivery Care

When you arrive at any of our maternity centers, you’ll be welcomed by our friendly and reassuring staff. Once you’re settled in your room, your care team will begin to monitor you and baby.

One of our Emory Healthcare physicians will be by shortly to see you as well to answer any questions you may have. And, since it’s one of our trusted colleagues, you can be sure you’ll be receiving top-notch care from a member of our team and someone who has access to your background and medical details.

At Emory’s Maternity Centers, you’ll also have access to:

  • Advanced technology to monitor you and baby
  • Evidence-based medicines and approaches for your delivery, recovery and bonding experience
  • Level III neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) if your baby requires special care
  • Personalized care that meets your needs
  • Specialists should you or baby require additional care
  • Supportive lactation consultants to answer questions about breastfeeding
