Orthopaedic Rehabilitation

Restore Function, Strength and Flexibility

Whether you’re living with a chronic musculoskeletal condition, have an injury or have had surgery, orthopaedic rehabilitation can help you get back on your feet. Ortho rehab is for anyone recovering from issues that affect their bones, joints, muscles, tendons or ligaments.

At Emory Healthcare, you’ll find an experienced ortho rehab team dedicated to helping you move and function better. Working with you, we identify your needs and goals. Then, together, we develop a treatment plan to help you live as fully, safely and comfortably as possible.

Your treatment will include education, physical therapy and occupational therapy. We bring in other experts, as needed. Depending on your situation, we may recommend inpatient or outpatient rehabilitation services.

For your convenience, we offer outpatient services at clinics throughout Metro Atlanta.

How We Help You

We personalize rehab services for your needs. In general, you can rely on us to:

  • Build your strength and endurance

  • Educate you on adaptive strategies and equipment

  • Make it easier for you to function physically

  • Return you to your daily activities with confidence

Throughout your rehab, we work to lessen your pain and other symptoms. Rehab can also give you an emotional boost.

Joint Replacement Rehabilitation

Orthopaedic rehabilitation is essential for successful joint replacement surgery. When you undergo hip replacement rehab, it’s common to begin physical therapy the day of surgery. You’re likely to walk right away, with the aid of a walker, crutches or a cane.

Therapists also provide exercises to prepare you to return to your normal routine. You may continue these for several weeks. Occupational therapists teach you how to safely put on your pants, shoes and socks to prevent dislocating your hip and how to do other activities.

Knee replacement rehab is similar. It includes physical and occupational therapy. Exercise and adaptive equipment can help speed up your recovery and keep you safe.
