Advanced Treatment for Eye Cancer

Eye cancer is rare. If you or a loved one are affected, you need experienced eye and cancer doctors by your side.

Emory Eye Center ocular oncologists (eye cancer doctors) offer the most advanced treatment options.

Our team works closely with specialists across Emory Healthcare, Winship Cancer Institute of Emory University and the Cancer Center at Children's Healthcare of Atlanta  to offer comprehensive care for adults and children with eye cancer.

Eye Cancer Treatments

If you have eye cancer, our team will work with you to develop a treatment plan for your specific diagnosis. We offer a full range of eye cancer treatment options for cancerous and noncancerous tumors on the eye, eyelid and surrounding area. Treatments include:

  • Medication: Including topical and injected chemotherapy drugs and other targeted medications
  • Cryotherapy: The use of low temperatures to destroy cancer cells
  • Radiation therapy: Including brachytherapy and external beam radiation
  • Laser therapy: Targeted light and heat therapy designed to destroy cancer cells Surgery: Including tumor and tissue removal

We also partner with our oculoplastic surgery specialists when you need cosmetic or reconstructive surgery as part of your eye cancer treatment.

What to Expect During Eye Cancer Treatment

At Emory Eye Center, we evaluate each tumor to determine the best treatment for you.

We then work with you to manage any side effects of your treatment. Side effects vary by treatment type, but may include:

  • Blurry or double vision
  • Dry eye
  • Fatigue
  • Light sensitivity
  • Loss of eyelashes and other hair loss
  • Nausea Redness and irritation
  • Skin inflammation around the eye
  • Vision loss

Our ocular oncologists treat all forms of eye cancer, including ocular melanoma, lymphoma, and skin tumors around the eye and surrounding tissue. We also have expertise in treating retinal tumors, including retinoblastoma.
