Sometimes, you can’t see well, even with corrective eyeglasses, contact lenses or medical treatment. Vision rehabilitation may help.

Emory Eye Center has one of only two vision rehabilitation centers in the Southeast U.S. Our team uses tools and training services to help you manage your daily activities.

We’re experts in a wide range of eye conditions and offer the newest technologies and therapies. Our Low Vision Clinic is one of a few sites developing advanced vision-assisting devices.

What is Vision Rehabilitation?

Vision rehabilitation can help you enhance your vision if you have low vision. It also can help if you have an eye condition that reduces your sight. This includes:

It also is a treatment option if you’ve had vision loss due to a stroke, traumatic brain injury or multiple sclerosis.

Vision Rehabilitation Tools and Services

Vision rehabilitation uses many tools, therapies and services. These may include:

  • Adaptive independent living skills training
  • Assistive devices and technology, such as magnifiers, screen readers and digital viewing systems
  • Changes in lighting, labeling and use of contrast
  • Different techniques for activities such as driving and shopping
  • Emotional support therapy
  • Job training or workplace adjustments
  • Mobility training
  • Reading and writing training, such as Braille

During your first appointment, the vision rehabilitation team will assess your abilities and limitations. They’ll also talk about your goals. Then, they’ll develop your individual plan.
