Your care team will provide instructions for the type of ultrasound you’re having. They may tell you not to eat or drink before your exam.
Wear loose, comfortable clothing. You may have to change into a gown.
You will lie on a padded exam table during the procedure. An ultrasound professional will apply gel to your skin in the area they will examine. They may direct you to hold your breath at certain intervals. They will move the transducer over the exam area to capture pictures.
The exam is painless. You may feel some pressure as the transducer moves over your body. Most ultrasounds take 30 to 60 minutes.
A radiologist will review your images and write a report for your doctor to discuss with you.
