Cubital tunnel release is used to treat a patient diagnosed with cubital tunnel syndrome. This procedure is an out-patient surgery performed to relieve pressure on the ulnar nerve, the nerve that is compressed and causing the numbness and tingling in the hand, ring and pinky fingers. The hand surgeon will make a small incision on the inside of the elbow, relieving pressure on the ulnar nerve. Then the surgeon closes the small incision with sutures.
Following surgery, the numbness and tingling may improve quickly or slowly, and it may take several months for the strength in the hand and wrist to improve. Cubital tunnel symptoms may not completely resolve after surgery, especially in severe cases.
