High Tibial Osteotomy
When one side of the knee becomes worn, resulting in a poorly aligned joint and often further damage to the worn side of the joint. High tibial osteotomy restores proper alignment to the knee through one of two techniques. In the "open wedge" technique, a wedge is cut in the tibia and filled with a bone graft in order to raise the lowered side of the joint. In the "closed wedge" technique, a wedge is removed from the tabia, lowering the higher side of the joint.
