Multiple Sclerosis Treatments

Multiple Sclerosis Treatments

Multiple sclerosis (MS) has no known cure. But treatments can help. Our doctors can help you manage symptoms, decrease flare-ups and slow disease progression.

We provide collaborative and dedicated care at the Emory MS and Autoimmune Neurology Center. Our doctors and scientists also lead research projects and clinical trials to improve MS treatment. You may also have access to new treatments by participating in a clinical study.

Integrative Treatments for MS

Our specialists provide team-based evaluations and treatment plans. You get access to a full line of therapies and integrative care from experts in:

  • Cognitive evaluations and treatments to evaluate and treat any memory problems
  • Counseling
  • Neuro-ophthalmology (treating vision problems connected to the nervous system)
  • Neurorehabilitation
  • Physical therapy
  • Specialty evaluations like referrals to sleep medicine and psychiatry, among others
  • Urological evaluations and treatment (treating urinary or reproductive systems)
  • Pain management
  • Physical medicine and rehabilitation (PM&R) for management of spasticity with Botox

Our doctors also participate in clinical trials and research to identify new treatments for multiple sclerosis.

Medications can help with managing symptoms as well as reducing relapses and slowing progression of disease. These treatments include:

  • Disease-modifying therapies (DMTs) (reducing the frequency of relapses)

To treat common symptoms of MS, our doctors may prescribe other medicines, such as:

Additionally, they may refer you to get additional services, such as:

  • Assistive devices such as a cane, brace or walker to walk
  • Eyeglasses to enhance your vision
  • Low-impact exercise such as walking and yoga to improve your flexibility and balance
