Community and Cultural Competency

Emory Healthcare pledges to meet the special healthcare needs of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer/questioning, intersex and asexual community (LGBTQIA) with respect and compassion.

We commit to making sure that all LGBTQIA patients can access quality care in a welcoming and supportive environment and are recognized for our commitment by the Human Rights Campaign Healthcare Equality Index.

As stated in the Patient Privacy and Rights section of the website, all patients have a right to:

  • Receive considerate and respectful care without discrimination based on age, race, ethnicity, religion, culture, language, physical or mental disability, socioeconomic status, sex, sexual orientation, and gender identity or expression
  • Expect care given about your safety in a safe setting
  • Expect care given in an environment free from all forms of abuse or harassment
  • Have a family member or representative of your choice notified quickly of your admission to the hospital, and be present during your stay to visit or provide support (unless their presence interferes with other's rights, or safety or is medically contraindicated)
